Handcrafted using traditional metalsmithing techniques from sterling silver and using genuine ocean-tumbled sea glass, these beautiful earrings are an elegant style that are perfect for sailors, beach lovers and anyone else who loves the ocean!
The sea glass in these earrings is a lovely cobalt blue shade, with a beautifully smooth and tactile frosty surface. The glass was not found personally by me, but instead sourced from a fellow beachcomber in the North East of England who has also shaped each one by hand into a perfectly round and flat based cabochon in order to create perfect symmetry and let the beautiful colour take centre stage.
If you prefer your sea glass to be completely 'as found' and in its totally original ocean-tumbled shape, then I do have other earrings available that feature glass that fits that description!
The glass in each of these earrings has been securely wrapped in a bespoke handcrafted bezel setting made from plain recycled sterling silver, and they hang from 'continental' sterling silver hooks for a clean and contemporary look. These hooks self-fasten at the back with a hinge for extra security.
Below the main setting hangs a graduated silver 'tassel' made of delicate lengths of silver wire, hammered flat at the ends. This moves freely on its hanging loop and adds some beautiful sparkle and shine to the design.
The glass cabochons are approximately 11mm in diameter, and the back of the main settings measure 13mm across. The tassels are 30mm in length, giving the earrings a total overall hanging length of approximately 43mm from the top of the upper hanging ring to the base of the longest tassel.
All the silver has been polished back to a higher shine. The reverse of the main backplate has a lightly brushed satin finish.
These are a really stunning and unique pair of earrings, perfect for indulging your inner mermaid!
*Please note that in the interests of hygiene the hook on the earring worn in the photo has been changed.
Sea glass is broadly defined as glass which has been discarded into the oceans or on beaches, thereafter spending many decades being gently tumbled by the waves. This gives it the characteristic smooth edges and beautiful frosted appearance which defines it.
Every piece of sea glass I use is authentic, genuine sea glass – some of which I collect myself from my local beach, and other pieces which I source from fellow beachcombers located in other parts of the country. The glass in these earrings is from beaches on the North East coast of the UK.
As the glass I use is genuine, ocean tumbled sea glass, it does contain the very tiny indentions and 'C' marks on the surface which were created as it spent decades in the water - these are the characteristic signs of its authenticity. These marks are not usually obvious to the naked eye but may be visible in the close-up photographs.
Each item of sea glass jewellery I make will by its very nature be unique and 'one of a kind' - the pictures you see here in each listing will be of the exact item that will be received and I always try to give as accurate a description as possible. Please feel free to message me if there is anything else you would like to know about sea glass or any item in this collection!
Due to weight and value, these earrings will be carefully gift wrapped and presented in a ribbon-tied cardboard gift box. All items are sent in mailing boxes, mailing bags or padded envelopes as appropriate.
Shipping within the UK is already included via Royal Mail's ‘Tracked 24’ service (delivery estimate within 2-3 working days), with an optional upgrade to an express 'Special Delivery' service available at checkout for an additional charge (delivery estimate 1-2 working days).
I always aim to despatch all orders on the same or next working day that they are received, so any upgrade in postage chosen by a customer will be for the purposes of achieving higher priority within the Royal Mail system itself, rather than a faster processing time from me as a seller.
Please be aware that I am unable to guarantee specific delivery times of orders once posted but an estimate will be provided on checkout. This is a guide only.
If you wish to include a short handwritten message on a tag then I am more than happy to provide this service free of charge. Please enter any required text in the optional box to the left of the images.
In addition, if you wish the item to be sent direct to the recipient, then please make sure the mailing address is correct during the checkout process.
Aftercare advice on how to best care for your handmade jewellery will be provided in a leaflet with every order, but can also be found at the link HERE.
More information on payment and shipping, along with a copy of our full terms and conditions and privacy policy can be found at the links in the main menu and at the footer of each page.
And finally, if there is anything else at all that you would like to know about a particular item then please don’t hesitate to send a message and I’ll do my best to help!
